Bach – Sinfonia #12 in A major

Before school starts up again, I thought I would sneak in just one more sinfonia.  This is a charming piece, more like a trio sonata than a work for solo keyboard.  The rumbling bass part (or maybe it’s a viola da gamba part) is highly unusual for Bach’s keyboard works.  All in all, it’s a busy piece, more about the episodes than the subject.  In fact, the subject rarely makes an appearance, and when it does, it’s always in its original form.  No  inversions (like in #1 and #6), and no intense strettos (like in #14).  And no unusual modulations (like in #2 and #4).  And no highly virtuosic moments (like in #15).  So what does this one have?  Lots of playful charm. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to play!  I hope you like it.
